This day was our last day in Assisi. Soon after we woke up, we drove over to Francesco's apartment for our bike tour. We also met his mother and father, Maria and Piero. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted with extreme kindness and hospitality. Maria had prepare a beautiful breakfast for us and had us sit down at their dining room table for breakfast. Also, Piero was very intent that we stuff ourselves before our bike ride.
Francesco lead us on our 20km bike ride, leading us around the field and farms of Umbria. Surprisingly, the sun didn't feel extremely hot outside because we were moving on our bikes.
Shortly after, Francesco lead us to his family's farm. Francesco gave us a quick tour, showing us the livestock and different crops they grow. The donkey was very excited to see us.
Maria came outside to take the appetizers out of the oven; an oven that has been in there family for generations, like much of the other equipment on the farm. Then Francesco led us into the house for lunch.
One appetizer course, two pasta courses, a meat course, and a dessert course. That was our lunch with Francesco and his family. Everything about the food, family, and scenery was beautiful. The home made food and the hospitality made us feel at home with them, which made this one of the greatest experiences on our entire trip.
We truly appreciate and thank Maria, Piero, and Francesco for a wonderful day in Assisi!
